John and his wife Janice come from Baltimore, Maryland.  Currently, he is the Minister of Family Counseling and Local Community Outreach at Grace Coastal Church in Okatie, South Carolina.

John served as youth director at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church.  He entered the ministry after teaching and business careers.  John earned his B.A. in education from Cedarville University with a minor in Bible.  Later, he received his Master’s Degree in Education from Loyola College in Baltimore.  He also is  a certified marriage counselor from Cornerstone Institute and has a basic certificate of counseling from the Christian Counseling Education Foundation in Philadelphia, PA.  John plans on working on the advanced certificate in counseling in the near future.  He was ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance in 2003.
John is married to Janice (Children’s Director) and has two children, John Jr. (29) and Jennifer Jansen (25).  They are the proud grandparents of Kylee Faye Jansen born September 23, 2008 and Benjamin Ellis Jansen born July 20, 2011.
John serves as lead chaplain for the Bluffton Police Department. He also is a chaplain for the Bluffton Township Fire District.
John has been a chaplain working for the Corporate Chaplains of America in Savannah, GA and Beaufort, SC for the past two years.
John and Janice currently reside in Bluffton, South Carolina.  While he dreams of being mayor of Bluffton one day (always dreaming), he remains an active member of the Beaufort Alliance of Human Services.

John enjoys kayaking in the Lowcountry, photographing life, and just about anything related to sports.  He is a transformed U of South Carolina fan (football), will always love the Baltimore Orioles and is a die hard Cowboys fan.  You may even find him at a Nascar race.  While he loves golf, golf does not love him.  He misses Maryland steamed crabs and snowballs (not the kind you throw).  He does not miss the snow, cold weather and frantic pace of life in the Baltimore area.

John currently watches The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory and The Simpsons between ESPN events.  He always likes a good movie.  Lately John has committed to reading 4 books a month.  He might get better at it if he would stop reading more than one book at a time.  At least he has stopped reading the last chapter before the first chapter.
